3 Things That Are (Obviously) IN

In no particular order…here are 3 things that are on our in list

Julia Fox’s TikTok

I’m obsessed with listening to this woman speak. Every day I wake up and check her page to see if she’s posted something new. She gets on there with her bleached brows and occasionally messy self-drawn big eyeliner that’s become a trademark for her, and candidly rants about it all - fashion, billionaires, childcare, and men being afraid of their own assholes. Julia has all of the traits that I admire most in a person - she’s funny, sincere, honest, and so totally herself in the face of a good chunk of the internet laughing at her (although, from what I can tell, most of that chunk of the internet are little crypto nerds and/or virgins).

Yankee Candles

Maybe it’s my strict New England upbringing, but looking cool was never about being trendy when I was growing up. If you could wear something totally practical and suitable for the Massachusetts weather and still look amazing while doing it, that was the coolest thing you could do. And I think that’s the reason why, after all this time, I still love a good Yankee Candle. Their candles are affordable, accessible, and consistent. I’m currently burning through one called “Kitchen Spice” with a clunky stock image of a spice jar on the label that smells exactly like - you guessed it - someone’s been cooking with spices in your kitchen. I really believe that the only thing holding them back are aesthetics. All they need is that Gen Z makeover and they’ll be flying off the racks. If they’re looking for someone to run a TikTok page - might I pitch that I would be extremely available for this job.

Shimmery Makeup

I personally just don’t have the skill or patience for heavy matte makeup (no matter how many YouTube beauty gurus I watched in the 2010s). Before I went to high school dances I would slab some Claire’s roll-on watermelon scented body glitter onto my eyelids and call it a look. And it was! I still have a tube of Claire’s roll-on body glitter (not the same one, my current one is strawberry scented) that I use on occasion and I love the sheer, glistening look of cheap drugstore single-tone eyeshadows. Make it cool to look whimsical again!
